Rainbow for the Future is a Canadian development agency dedicated to the organization and integration of sustainable development efforts, particularly in Ethiopia.

 

The impetus to form a charitable organization to assist with funding humanitarian development projects came from previous work with The Canadian Food Grains Bank and Westlock Rotary Club. Partnerships were forged with Ethiopian NGOs and the lives of many beneficiaries were positively changed.

Since registration in 2005, Rainbow for the Future has continued  building on those relationships with The Gudina Tumsa Foundation (www.gtf.org.et) and their work among the Karayu people in the Fantelle region; Support for Sustainable Development.  Gebreyes Haile’s irrigation based development work in the Afar region; in partnership with Rotary, support of the Dr. Redda’s Grabet Ledekuman Clinic in Butajera and Ziway (redda@ethionet.et) and his tremendous work with polio, eye disease, epilepsy patients. More recently RFTF has secured funding for Sageda Development Association projects and the Awassa Catholic Secretariat for their work among the Amero people in southern Ethiopia.

We at Rainbow are working hard to realize our mission of utilizing some of the many resources we enjoy in Canada to alleviate the human condition as it relates to extreme poverty and food insecurity while at the same time showing respect for our benefactors by utilizing responsible practices for accountability and sound stewardship.

Rainbow strongly supports irrigation based development projects as a means to improve food security and thereby allowing communities to become autonomous and independent. When household income is stabilized and food security is imminent then the focus can turn to education and long term sustainability.

At the end of every Rainbow is a pot of gold, in this case it is the realization that every human being without regard for color, caste or creed,

has the right to economic stability through education and self determination! That is the basis and motivation for everything we do.

The donations we receive are transferred to our recipients and administration and travel, etc. are covered by volunteers and our directors.

 

We provide sound stewardship and transparency in all our undertakings.

 

We  leverage the resources we receive so as to maximize the outcome.

 

We have recipients contribute in some form -- resources or labour to encourage participation in their success.

 

We forge strong partnerships with other organizations and individuals thus providing expertise, trust and excellent stewardship of the resources people entrust to us.

 

RFTF regularly travels to Ethiopia to oversee projects, gather information, photos, plan future projects with Ethiopian partner NGO’s and to visit the beneficiaries who are living the change.
